Wafex owns and operates a total vertically integrated business. It has established a supply chain that provides a steady pipeline of new varieties, grown under licence all year round and for the exclusive benefit of our growers and customers.
Our vertically integrated global flower business includes investments in Breeding, Production, Bouquet Making, Importing, Exporting, Wholesaling and On line Sales and Fulfilment direct to the consumer.
Our Value Chain
Breeding
Helix Australia is the world’s leader in the breeding, release and commercialisation of Waxflower and Boronia. Key partnerships and investments with Private Breeders, Kings Park and Botanical Gardens Western Australia and Australian State Agriculture Departments, ensures a continual pipeline of new varieties for our partner growers around the world and our customers. We have licenced growers in South Africa, Israel, California, Portugal and Italy and as such we can offer our global customers an all year round supply of Helix varieties
Farm Production
Having four farms strategically located throughout Australia, Wafex has secured supply of key Waxflower varieties bred out of the Helix breeding programme. Wafex also has secured supplies of high value Proteas, Leucadendrons, Banksias and Foliages.
Importing/Exporting
Importing and exporting has been at the core of the Wafex business for 30 years. Wafex has experienced professionals in Australia, Kenya and Ecuador as well as dedicated facilities in Perth and Melbourne to handle clearances and export packing and consolidation, both across Australian and at a global level.
Wafex is the only flower company in Australia with East and West coast capability.
Wholesaling
In April 2019 Wafex acquired Tesselaar Flowers, a respected wholesale business in Australia. Tesselaar Flowers was established in 1949 and with locations in Brisbane and the flower growing capital of Australia, Monbulk, Victoria, Tesselaar Flowers has a reputation for quality and high end flowers for every occasion. Tesselaar Flowers enjoys a very strong and loyal local grower base, which complements the Wafex import programme.
Online Sales and Fulfilment
In 2014 Wafex acquired sendto.com.au, a customer facing online business trading predominately in the UK which has expanded to include fulfilment and funeral flowers.
Producing large volumes and varieties of Australian native flowers at our own native flower farms, together with many small and large growers throughout Australia, Wafex ensures that at all times the greatest range of flowers are available to meet our customer’s requirements.
